It’s online , but it is on target?
Using the web wisely
Thanks to the web, information is easy to find. However, it’s also easy to post something online. Anyone can do it.
You’ve probably used the internet to do research for a paper, to help you decide which product to buy, or to form an opinion about current events .looking up information online is fast and convenient. But when you do online research, it’s important to find sites you can trust.
Many websites claim to have the facts, but are full of errors. Others present information in a biased way – they only give one side of an argument. How can you tell a reliable source from an unreliable one? Also, it is critical that you post online only that which is decent and appropriate, never anything pornographic, vulgar, indecent, out of taste, untruthful, or obscene. Post those things that will make a good name for you and your organization, that will promote goodwill and be of benefit to the world.

Going the extra mile in your research elevates your achievement 10-fold.
Tipb4: use a dictionary
Make sure you have access to a dictionary when you’re reading. You can often figure out the meaning of an unfamiliar word using context clues, but sometimes you can’t .rather than simply skipping over words you don’t know, take the time to look them up. The results are well worth the effort. Your comprehension will increase greatly, and you’ll build your vocabulary at the same time.

5 tips for staying motivated

5 tips for staying motivated
Tips 1-2
To succeed in high school and college, you have to do your best all time. But sometimes it’s hard to stay motivated, even when you really care about you’re doing. Here are five ways to stay on the right track.
1. Focus on high- impact activities
The key to success in school is staying focused on your course work. Make a list to get an overall picture of your workload before you start to tackle any of it. Then, make a plan. Though it’s tempting to do the simplest assignments first, those that take more time and effort to accomplish are probably the ones that you’ll learn the most from.
To determine what your priorities are, rank your assignments in the order of their importance. Then rearrange your time and devote more energy towards those that have the greatest impact on your course work and grades. for example , even though all homework assignments  are important, studying for midterms exams takes priority over writing a paragraph for English class. As you complete each task, think of it as another step on your way to college success.
2. Create new challenges
Changing your approach can help you stay interested in what you’re doing. If you’ve been given an s=assignment similar to the one you have done in the past, think about it in a different way. If you wrote an essay for a creative writing assignment last year, try a poem this time. For book reports, pick a history book instead of another biography.

If you have a study period or a long bus ride, use the time to review notes, prepare for an upcoming class or start your homework. Flash cards are a great learning tool. They are easy to make, easy to handle, and are a marvelous tool to help you learn and remember anything. Punch a hole in the upper left corner of each index card and connect the stack of your flash cards with a ring. Then the cards are bound and not flopping around. Flash cards bound like this act like a small book with pages. you can even have separated ringed stacks for each subject. WHATEVER YOU WANT TO REMEMBER, PUT IT ON A CARD.
Study with a friend.
Get together with friends and classmates to quiz each other compare notes and predict test questions. Consider joining a study group.
Communicate
If you have concerns about the amount or type of homework you have, you may want to talk to your family, teachers or counselor. They can help you understand how much time you need a allot for homework and how to manage your task.

·         Advance and specialize classes: Some schools can’t provide advanced or specialized classes. Distance education gives you the chance to gain experience in are areas that would otherwise remain out of reach.

Distance Education : is a virtual classroom for you ?

Distance Education : is a virtual classroom for you ?
Part 1
You may want to take a class that your high school doesn’t offer. Under some circumstances, you can still enroll in the class—through distance learning.
Distance education means taking a class without being physically present where it is being taught. Interne-based technology lets students participate in lectures and class sessions online from almost anywhere.
Some high schools agree to recognize distance-learning credits when they don’t have the resources to offer a course themselves. Distance education is often used to increase options in rural areas and for AP courses.
For you, it might mean doing self-tutorial at home in the evening, or participating in a class that is 1,000 miles away, along with other high school students. Check with your school counselor to see what’s available.

STUDENT SUCCESS STATEMENT

"YOU MUST NEVER BE FEARFUL ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE DOING WHEN IT IS RIGHT."

ROSA PARKS

THIS STATEMENT IS TRUE BECAUSE INSTEAD OF HAVING FEAR OF  BEING CAUGHT OF DOING THE RIGHT YOU SHOULD HAVE PRIDE AND BE PROUD OF WHAT YOU ARE DOING
unhistorical:

December 1, 1955: Rosa Parks is arrested.
Rosa Parks’ refusal to give up her bus seat to a white man and her subsequent arrest marked the beginning of the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which eventually led to the federal ruling that declared bus segregation laws unconstitutional. At the time of her arrest Parks had been working as a seamstress, and she was also secretary of the Montgomery chapter of the NAACP, although her arrest was not planned out beforehand as a move to challenge the state and city bus segregation laws. But even if her action had not been an official gesture of protest, her defiance of the law was the result of years and years of frustration with the injustice of the law and others like it. In her 1992 biography, Parks wrote:

People always say that I didn’t give up my seat because I was tired, but that isn’t true. I was not tired physically, or no more tired than I usually was at the end of a working day. I was not old, although some people have an image of me as being old then. I was forty-two. No, the only tired I was, was tired of giving in.

Martin Luther King, Jr. offered a similar explanation in his own book,Stride Toward Freedom:

No one can understand the action of Mrs. Parks unless he realizes that eventually the cup of endurance runs over, and the human personality cries out, ‘I can take it no longer.’

Parks had been sitting on a bus, on the way home from work. The bus’s white-reserved seats quickly filled up so that several white passengers were left standing, whereupon Parks and three other African-American riders were ordered by the bus driver to move toward the back of the bus, to the “colored” section. The other three obeyed; Parks did not. The bus driver then threatened to have her arrested, to which she replied simply, “You may do that”. The police eventually did come and arrest her, and she was charged with the violation of a Montgomery city segregation law (she was eventually fined $10 after a brief trial). Three days after Parks’ arrest, news of a planned boycott - the Montgomery Bus Boycott - spread through newspapers and black churches; meanwhile, Edgar Nixon and Martin Luther King, Jr. conferred on how to carry out their official challenge of Alabama’s segregation laws. In the end, they decided that Rosa Parks (who was described by King as “one of the finest citizens of Montgomery”) would serve as the plaintiff for a test cause against segregation laws.
After 381 days, the boycott ended. In one iconic image (pictured above), Rosa Parks is pictured riding on a bus of Montgomery’s newly-integrated transportation system. In 1996 she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and in 1999, the Congressional Gold Medal.

Balancing High School and Part-Time Work

Part 5
Additional Tips
Although working and going to school is challenging, it can be a rewarding experience if you use some foresight. These tips can help you handle the situation and make the most of your time:
· Discuss your plans with your family. Balancing the demands of school and work is easier with their support.
· Start slowly; dont commit a lot of hours immediately.
· Avoid time conflict by planning your class and work schedules as far ahead of time as possible.
· Use your time efficiently. You can use 10 minutes waiting in a line to go over as few pages of assigned reading. If your job has a lot of downtime and your boss has no objection, you can use slow periods to do schoolwork.
· If you commute to your job on public transportation, bring your schoolwork with you so you can work along the way.
· Be flexible and willing to make sacrifices. You may have to cut down on some other things youd like to do because of your school and work commitments.
· If you have too much on your plate, admit it. Then cut back as needed.
· Schedule relaxation time. Everyone needs some downtime to stay happy and healthy.
